Edging for gravel drive

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hello
This is a great site! We have dug out an extension to our driveway. We are going to fill it with scalpings topped with gravel. We will have to edge the drive with some sort of brick on the lawn side and possibly on the path side. I have searched the site for an answer to my question but can't find it.

Should the edging material be on top of the scalpings or on the lawn (with the necessary amount of topping removed)?
