We've just had a slate patio laid (approx 4m x 6m). There is quite a bit of pooling happening, even with light rain. Our builder is saying this is due to it being a natural material, but our concern is that there is unsufficient fall to drain the water away.

Well.....the builder is right that slate is a natural material, but he's also less than honest because, had the paving been laid with adequate fall, there would be NO poooling at all.

If you have access to a spirit level, you can check for yourself, but I suspect you are now going to have a battle with this clown who doesn't even seem to be aware that ALL conventional paving, and that includes slate and all other "natural materials", must be laid with fall towards a suitable drainage point.

With materials that are heavily riven like Slate and Sandstone, the falls have to be 1/60 minimum to avoid pooling
