Tony,
When using a membrane to minimise problems in breaching the dpc with a step, should the membrane come underneath the brick risers against the wall and is any heavy duty polythene sheeting suitable for use? Could you show a diagram please?

Gary - Just about to do same thing to a front-door (under porch) and back-door onto what will be a paved courtyard. Gonna use the approach as detailed in
http://www.pavingexpert.com/featur01.htm
Aiming for pvc (regular blue dpc stuff) under steps, turning up behind top pavers and against face brickwork. Finished step level will be 20mm below existing house dpc and door threshold. Sealing round step with waterproof mastic rather than the pointing mix.
Does this sound the way to go....?

Hi Tony,
The step consisted of sandstone flags laid on brick risers (two courses high). The step was infilled with concrete.
In the end, what I did was leave a small gap between the brick risers and the wall, and also I 'pulled' the concrete which I infilled with away from the wall a bit before laying the flags.
How does this sound?
Regards
