We need to pave a small patio area and we want it to be black (blue/black to be ultra specific). We have so far got a Bradstone natural limestone sample and a black brazilian natural riven slate sample.

I found your article about limestone being a nightmare for fading and the use of sealants, so it made me wonder whether I should ditch this option. Would the riven slate suffer from the same problems with fading?

And generally is there any patio paving material (doesn't have to be natural) which would retain its black colour without a lot of fuss?

thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Slate doesn't fade in the same way as limestone does. It can become quite dull in appearance and according to your preference, you may choose to use a satin sealer to enhance the appearance. If you are looking for an easier care option however, then I would recommend porcelain as this comes in a range of colours including dark grey and black shades. It has a slip resistant texture for outdoor use. I've attached a link on our website to a variety of porcelain options if this is of interest to you https://www.pavingsuperstore.co.uk/by-mate....er=5653

Please let me know if I can assist any further.

Regards,

George

That's really helpful, thanks. I think porcelain sounds like the way to go :)

I agree with George porcelain is the least maintenance of any paving, although relatively expensive to buy and install
