Hello,
I going to make our driveway out of random sandstones (about 30mm thick). The advice on pavingexpert.com is to lay it on a 100mm concrete slab, but not a lot of detail given. The construction diagram given shows random stone seemingly imbedded in the 100mm slab. Must be a ‘typo’. Random paving takes time because it’s a jigsaw puzzle. I assume you need a bedding layer over a dried slab. Any thoughts? Has anyone used a plasticiser into bedding and wiggled random stones into the bedding until it oozes out the sides and doubles as jointing?
Website also suggests control joints in slab. Can anyone see a reason? Unless the paving has the same overplayed joints (which defeats the whole purpose of random paving) the paving cracks are also bound to be random. Any thoughts on these matters would be welcome.
Regards
Turk

...Yes i can see a purpose in this. If you don't use controlled movement joints then your concrete slab will crack almost anywhere and will carry on through to you paving. Crazy paving is very time consuming and can look messy if not done correctly. Follow the laying details given for laying slabs, with controlled joints. Given that you are in Australia, don't lay the flags upside down :;):
