Not a big wall..

Basically have to shore up some ground for about 2 ft on one side of a patio. The higher ground level is going to be remain so basically the left side of a patio it going to have 2.5 meters of 2 ft natural stone brick walling going into a hill and this top course is going to continue all around the patio as the edging. Obviously I was going to joint with a compound as opposed to 4:1

To avoid angling the walling inwards I was going to shore up with concrete and then compact in layers to back fill.

Apart from concrete blocks this will be my first wall....

What could could possibly go wrong???

Easier to do 9 inch block/brick work than mess about with shuttering and concrete.

OK so string line from highest part of the land to get a straight level line and determine where top course is going to end heigh wise.

450/450mm concrete level foundation to allow natural stone bricks to sit inside outside edge by 100mm and leave plenty of room for block or concrete behind this course.

At the point where land starts to rise shutter in concrete and incrementally reduced levels in steps to accomodate rising brick courses. Get to terminal height and continue edging all around on top of 6 inches of c30 concrete.

Bang in 100-150mm limestone lay slabs, jobs a gooden....

Oh, and for extra precautions use type 1 to back fill behind wall instead of shifting soil about to avoid clay expansion and reduce loads.

You should backfill with gravel, and have weepholes in the wall

Any way of hiding those ugly weep holes. Don't want to ruin the look of sandstone walling.

we have used clay land drains as an alternative at times
just for aesthetics
