Gravel patio

Hi Guys,

I am an absolute novice whe it comes to to gardening/paving, and therefore am lookig for some advice...

I am thinking of making a patio area using gravel, where there is currently grass. Do I need to dig up the grass and do any special preparation before laying the gravel, i.e. put down a layer of plastic, sand, etc?

Any help or advice on this matter would be very much appreciated.
