Wow that's a bit extreme but maybe if similar was done here it would set an example and deter others from similar practice.

It's not just the do as you likies. It is happening on new builds all the time. Some ( not all ) firms are turning a blind eye to rough work. I see cut blocks at 10 ml wide going in along edges, around manholes etc: large gaps filled with sand. £ 300,000+ prices of an house should expect better quality.

A mate of mine was offered the driveways on a development of 200+ houses thrown up by a well-known national name. Sub-base of varying quality plopped in place by the on-site groundworker, so S&F retaining edges courses, laying course, basic tumbled block, jointing, cutting-in and all labour - 21 quid/m², and 60 days wait until paid.

We were getting more than that from a national housebuilder with a predilection for helicopters back in 1997!!!

That's why you get crap quality work - pay peanuts, and you get monkeys.

...but when the layers are already employed and on a day rate no matter what they do...paving, pipe laying etc: then it's a given that you do a quality job ??? Most of the block paving is subbed out and guys do a good job.
