Good Morning,

Please be gentle as my first post! I came across this website and forum and as a newbie at D.I.Y I've found the information very helpful (thank you).

I do have a couple of questions though if anyone has any advice, that would be appreciated.

I'm currently in the process of pulling up the old patio at the back of my house. Its 19m2 in size and just wanted to put my mind at rest.

Without sounding daft as I'm new to D.I.Y but keen to learn. Would whats under the old slabs be ok as the sub base (mainly sand and bits of stone/concrete). If so would I just need to level this all off and then use sand & cement for the bedding? Or would I need to get rid of this or lay a new layer over the top?

Apologies if this is long winded but thanks in advance

Not daft budz', any questions welcome as are you. Your not giving much away..."bits of concrete and sand." You really need a minimum of 75 ml sub base. Maybe some photo's of existing will help us.
look here and main index under patios
Scroll down to construction diagram.
