when touring with bands the sprinter was king of the comfort and long distance cruising, dads got a crafter van thats very nice to drive and weve also just got a citroen relay i shot down to loughborough and back in it today a real nice drive but cab was short on cup holders.

the sprinters are heavy and dont have a great payload.
suppose it depends how new you want to buy, I sat in the new transit (proper van not the custom) tipper and that seemed a decently comfortable motor.
theres this guide for 2015 models:
http://www.parkers.co.uk/vans....-tipper
my 2002 singlecab transit weighed just under 2.1t empty with half a tank of fuel and was comfortable was a great van but unfortunately 2nd child meant needed rear seats
what about a pickup/panel van and tipper trailer combo? some pickups will give you 3.5t tow so thats a 2.6t payload. I think the new longwheel base transit custom will tow 2.8t so would still give you nearly 2t on a trailer

For what Tony does a trailers no chance and he doesn't carry they much weight I'd guess save a pack of bricks etc he's good with his logistics etc it's more just a bigger pickup for the occasional load rather than like some 3.5 tippers you see carrying more than 7.5 toners

I take delivery of a new Mitsubishi Canter on Wednesday... did my homework and its the only 3500kg pickup with a train weight of 7000kg .. I do a lot of towing so its the best option for me
I looked at the Isuzu and tried to get a test drive in a Cabstar but no one in our area are dealers any more for the Cabstar so I felt that could be an issue long term for parts servicing etc
The cabstar and Isuzu are bouncy when compared to the canter as per from feed back off other owners of the these vehicles
I started looking for a Canter last summer and the only 2 I could find for sale were based in Kent so I had a test drive in a new one... they offered me very low finance so it was no brainer
its similar to this one but I have opted for a white back

I looked at the canter Mick but again its the sitting over the wheels that kills your back, my big thing is something I can last a 4.8m bundle of timber on to,or a pack of bricks or a tonne of gear, where we work and what we do a trailer is a non starter
was looking at contract hire around £220 a month for a crewcab transit tipper 12,000 miles annually,6 m overall length so pretty long
I may go for a movano as you can stick a tonne or pack of bricks in these, also good for moving plasterboard about, the old bill dont like to see stuff on open backed trucks anymore
lots to think about but no pressure will take my time and have a few test drives
I really like the Barbarian, but fecking useless for anything other than a tonne bag
cheers LLL

it cost me a lot of money 2 weeks ago to make my trailer legal again ..... to use the word abuse would be an understatement hence why I want a pick up and to upgrade to a trailer what can gross 3500kg instead of 2700kg like I have now

I had a Movano many years back and the biggest load of crap I have ever bought... put a pack of block in the back and it was on its knees
if you want a cracking van then get a sprinter, I have had 2 sprinters in the last 15 years and other than tyres servicing etc they have never let me down ... you get rust but don't they all

Have to agree with mick. Mate had one whike his cabstar was being repaired after an rta, and it was useless. No guts, crap payload, no bluetooth even!
I did consider a double cab canter, but you cannot remove the rear seats, or have sat nav.
forget transit for payload, it comes out as the worst one on the list, plus mega expensive!
