Temporary bridge/ ramp

Quoting a pretty large job. I'm eager to win it as it's close and involves a bit of creative thinking.

Of the top of my head there's 100 ish tons of disposal to be done before the job is started and currently that involves wheel barrows around the garden, through a gate down the side of a house and down some steps.

There is a quicker route which involves removal of a bay and building a 20 ft length bridge to bridge a lower level patio and the driveway out the front of the premises. I'm contemplating this but I need something for in the region of 6 weeks ish and it needs a 2.5 ton capacity I would reckon.

Any thoughts always welcome.

Before you go to far into it do they have a big enough budget your going to be way over 2k with just muckaway, labour, plant just to get ri of the 100 ton

Get a scaffold company to quote building a bridge. Its what I have done before

Yeah they do. They know it's not gonna be cheap. They are in a house they intend to remain in and are doing it up really well.

Hmmm, good idea. I doubt they'd be able to build anything suitable for plant though.. but I could probably buy scaffolding and rig something myself for barrows.

Yes they can. I had some constructed to go down some steep steps, it took a 1.5tonne digger and dumper no sweat, the dumper going up with soil, and down full of readymix.
could you not hire some conveyors as an alternative?

Conveyor belt could work but I'd need a long one

Half tempted to forget it. They are getting other quotes, as expected. 2 days really to work this out if don't just take a punt on it. Take a punt and I'll be stressed cos I wont know what I need to know. Dunno...

Sounds like an awkward one
With shifting the muck and bringing materials in your probably looking at least 7 days just moving things
I'd work it out for shifting it with barrows around the garden then if you get the job work out after if a ramp/bridge will be cheaper or more I.portantly quicker
It sounds like one of them jobs that not many will want or quote for you maybe better off to just agree a day rate

I mentioned a day rate and I'd give him a best worse case scenario but he didn't like it.

Very rough mental estimates atm are pushing the 20k mark. It's mainly removing a sizeable hill, terracing with sleepers, removal of trees and stumps and shrubs, installing drainage, fencing and artificial grass

A lot of stress, a lot to go wrong...

If he won't accept the day rate chances are won't like the price rate jobs like that its very easy for the smallest of delays to have a knock effect and cost you alot

I'd go with Dan's idea for the scaffolding, we have had tube and fix scaffolds built that can carry over 4 ton suspended from building structure and its not as expensive as you might think

I would give him an estimated cost rather than a firm quote
you can catch a cold easy on stuff like this

^^^ yep doesnt take long to be working for nothing, had a mate go down the same route had to stop him from carrying on with doing additional quoted/priced work as he would be at a loss and possibly a big loss at that
