Bent slabs?

Hi All,

I have been laying my first patio in smooth finished sandstone. I have noticed a few of the larger flags are twisted and 1 is cupped. Is this normal?

Those ones are a pain to lay as it takes me a few relays to figure it out it isn't me every time!

I have come across this a few times, most good suppliers will replace them with photo evidence, they will be difficult to lay and will likely come loose

this happens from time to time,I tend to visually inspect flags before laying and any bent or twisted ones,put to one side for cuts

I have just been through all the remaining ones and I can find a problem with at least a quarter of them. I have got some spare, but no where near that many. How much do you think I can get away with?

There are many possible causes for this problem.

1. Ultra-Hardspot in the stone causes the blade to divert from its course.
2. Trying to cut too quickly which causes the saw blade to bend.
3. The blades are blunt

Number one could happen to anyone but number 2 & 3 are human error, plain and simple. Regardless of all that you would expect defects like this to be picked up at QC stage!
