Bradstone stonemaster slabs 200 x 800 - Building steps

Hi
Does anyone have any ideas how to create steps out of the stone master 800 x 200 x 80 slabs? i would really to build steps out of the same material as the slabs, however the edges are rough with ridges, the builder feels it is impossible and suggested painting which I feel will look odd
