Hi. We've just had a new indian sandstone patio laid - 90m sq in total, so a bit of a beast. Visually it looks OK. Builder is asking for payment but there's two things I'm concerned about
1) Before it was pointed, a lot of the slabs were rocking. The application of the pointing seems to have stopped this physical movement but as strange as it sounds, you can hear some of the slabs move when you walk across it. Is this a problem or normal? Doesn't feel right to me.
2) Also in a handful of areas, there are hairline cracks, between pointing and slab. Are these likely to be a problem in the future - weeds, widening due to ice expansion etc?
The slabs were laid on a flat dry base (sorry not sure what material) the installer then appeared to apply a white liquid (PVA?) on the underside of each slab before putting in place.

Due to the size, it's not cheap and I want to be confident this patio is going to last but these niggles are worrying me. Thanks in advance for any advice. Link to photos below

if they are rocking now they will be twerking by next summer
no flags or slabs should rock at any time

what concerns me is the 2 easy chairs out on the patio when it was no where near finished :(

I'm more concerned about what your wife will do to you when she finds out you've posted photo's of the washing for the world to see. My wife would slaughter me

Problems here unfortunately.

The hairline cracks between pointing and paving are a clear indication that the slabs are not bonded to the bedding layer. It wont be long before the pointing completely breaks up.

Dry mix is no good for sandstone.

What percentage of the slabs are affected by the mortar cracking and hollow sound?
