Cheers Tony.
I've had to go old school this week.
My next 2 jobs are drives in driveline 50's but marshall can't get the blocks to me till the 7th so i've dropped on some commercial work for the week.
I'm laying permiable paving on a big site. We got 180m2 down between 3 of us today.
Not been on a job that size in about 6 years and although it didn't kill me I didn't take it in my stride like I used to.
Getting old.

What do you reckon. Constructive criticism welcome. I know it's not up to the standards here but I was almost perfectly happy with it...
Damn back was killing me though...

Thanks
Yeah it's good to aim high and be self critical. Customer was happy anyway.
Took too long though due to slipping a track on the dumper and under estimating sub base needed and there being 2 layers of concrete in places. 2 guys = 20 days. I had a cold though early this week so was dragging my feet right at the end. Kinda get bored on long jobs like that.
Rotary lazer is my next purchase. Would speed things up A LOT rather than constantly adjusting string lines and levelling left right and centre and having minor little panics here and there lol

Lazer levels can save time Forest but I've always used String lines, tape measure, spirit levels, pins, set square and straight edges to set out my work.
I've seen site engineers use a dumper level to set levels 2m away from nearest kerb when all that's needed is a bit of wood a level and a tape.
I agree with Tony above. I know I'm good at my job but I'd never claim to be the as good as some of the others on this board.
As long as you do your best for the customer and give them what they want thats all you can do.
I always say you might find someone cheaper or might find someone better but i doubt you'll find both.
This is what I've been doing tuesday to friday.
Looking forward to the 33m2 driveway I'm starting Monday lol.

Looks good Sam.
Can't understand the pre compaction aspect of block paving though and how you can guarantee blocks will end up exactly at the height needed after last compaction. Also why not a sand a cement semi dry mix instead of just sand and completely negate the need for pre compaction? Is it cos it's just not as strong as compacted sand?
Looks like a lot of bending down though lol.. at least they're light...

I could explain it to you forest but not as well as Tony can http://www.pavingexpert.com/blocks.htm
The only bit that has been compacted there is the top of the block as it's permiable
There 80s fo rest, anything but light lol..
