Shed base on clay and sand

hi there.

i have an 8x6 shed and wanting to lay it on some paving stones i bought. After checking the ground conditions in the area i want to put the base, i have found that it is just clay and sand. Previous occupiers of this property had raised the garden to become level as other gardens slope downwards.

I was advised that digging approx. 70mm with a 40mm sharp sand layer compacted down and then laying the slabs on top. The top of the slabs will be 7mm above ground level. Also it will be at a slight angle to allow water run off.

Will this be suitable or will i need an mot base under the sand?

Any advice would be brilliant

Excavate deep enough for the following build-up, 100mm of compacted sub-base, 50mm bed of mortar plus thickness of paving slab.

if i bought the sub base, could i not mix the sand with cement as coverage for the mortar would cost a fortune and i don't wanna waste the sand

upon further digging i have found that the area is just riddled with stones





would i be better off getting someone in to do it or is it manageable for a novice as myself

You've nearly done all the hard work so you may as well carry on
