7.5t down rated to 3.5 ton, what is the point, you can carry 1.5t on it you may as well had a 3.5t transit and not have the expense running a big lorry,
its a prime target for vosa men to stop you once they see it down rated they will weigh it and look for any excuse to fine you
your choice but a bad one i think i run a 7.5t tipper

they are everywhere and anywhere now, all self funded.
agree with MSH you wont get 1.5tonne on without being overloaded, weight of the crane, extra weight of a bigger lorry etc.

total rubbish you cant carry 4t on a downrated 7.t,and certinally cant tow as well, my canter 7.5t will carry 4t just leagally but with tools and stuff it more like 3.3t so yours is way over MSH

fortunately we only go from builders merchant to sites which are allways local. no motorways or anything like that. Like I said no wombles ever been seen in the sticks.

by the time your sat in it empty youll be over 3t waste of time this is literally the worst idea i have heard in a long time
lets face it your just going to drive around with 3t plus on the back anyway by the sounds of it so your not gaining anything bar the possibilities of big fines.
this could also be a can of worms will a down rated 7.5t still have to be six weekly checked, need an o license and be parked off road. if you park it on the road at night youll just attract attention

risky game to play, if you have an accident etc running at full weight yet having it downplayed etc insurance will be void and you'll get the book thrown at you

why the downplaying then just to save money or you've not got the license entitlement for 7.5ton? 7.5 ton and trailer for 2.6 ton machine etc is full class 1 license territory

just its not often enough to be worth it. digger goes to site and stays for example.

VOSA just needs to park outside any builders merchant at 7:30 and nab every motor leaving, they would all fail the paperwork I'm sure.

Just have to be sensible about it. Same as speeding etc is a non crime as there is no injury to anyone apart from the state. etc etc

If the machine doesn't move that often get it transported or you could have just bought an izuzu3.5t grafter which could tow 3.5t
Hopefully you'll get caught fully loaded with the trailer on

I cannot see whats been achieved with this idea of downrating. A 3.5tonne tipper holds more weight legally than this vehicle, and can tow the same weight, without the agro.
I think you may have shot yourself in both feet.
As regards vosa, some guys round me call themselves farm contractors, and did some haulage for a tree surgeon, using tractors and trailers. They were only going amfew miles up the road.Vosa pulled them up, no o licence, and running on red diesel. No leg to stand on.
that was on a quiet country road

I really have no idea what any of you are talking about..

So he's got a heavier vehicle and downrated it for what reason? Insurance? License requirements?

Doesn't that mean he has just invalidated his insurance and reduced his payload to practically nothing or even negative?
