I have just finished my own drive, and had spent the last 5-6 months getting various quotes over that time for the paving of my driveway (28 Sq Meters), the quotes ranged from the pikey quotes of £1800 to £3000 for professional (looking) companies for the same work, in the end I decided to do the work myself and the whole thing cost £1100 including skip/tool hire etc (if I was in the game it would have been cheaper still) , a few of the quotes came in at the £2200 mark telling me that price is about right. I think on anything like this you should be getting several quotes and not picking the cheapest (because it never is) quote. Cheap quotes normally indicate corners being cut/work being done sub standard, in this world you get what you pay for.

sympathys from me. Dave Carson from Drongan, Ayrshire.

i had quotes from several tradesmen(i am one myself in mechanical engineering) for lifting a concrete driveway and paving a total area of 106sq mtrs. i did think of trying it myself but thought the job too big. anyway most quotes came in around the same price. one very charming man called CHARLIE SMITH of who lead me to believe worked for himself under the name PREMIER DRIVEWAYS(advert in paper)and unknown to me until i had to contact a lawyer that he went under SCOTIA DRIVEWAYS, gave me a quote beating all by £300(price of job was £4000).he had done work for a boss where i work and he seamed pleased with his drive.
job was less than week old when it started to sag. it is poorly finished and front of house is a joke.
trading standards did nothing, i reported him to tax office, my lawyer(friend also) had sued him and won before. this guy leaves a path of destruction behind him.i was going to sue but someone else has beat me to it and have been warned i may not get payment from him, i therefore am going to use this brilliant site as a bible and cut my losses and use the money i was going to use for court and do the dam job myself.

for all intent purposes please dont have CHARLIE SMITH of (address removed by moderator) anywhere near your house.

one venting session later i will post before and after pictures

to all good contractors i feel sorry for you because of cowbboys!

to add to my last post can i make it clear that CHARLIE SMITH from (address removed again!) made it clear that he worked for Premier Driveways. i have found that he may have but when he came to do my driveway he apparently was working for himself. only his business card had the name Premier Driveways.
i wish to make it clear that i do not mean any harm or intent to harm the reputation of aany company under the name Premier Driveways, i only want to warn others in the Ayrshire region of mr CHARLIE SMITH. maybe some one out there can give me advice on him or his now whereabouts?
