Fixes for spot laid paving - Fixes for spot laid paving

We have had some paving laid that after a few weeks is is showing damp patches which I assume is showing the position of the spots of mortar beneath, and hence it has been spot laid rather than a full mortar bed
Is there any easy fix for this or is it a case of pulling it up and starting again

Will the paving be damaged at all by having been spot laid or when laid properly will the patches go away?

Just writing something about this very subject in more detail, hoping to publish later today, but the short version is that the stains are more-or-less permanent and the paving is essentially buggered.

What are the stains caused by. I thought the darker areas were where the motor was and the lighter bits where the voids are
Could send a pic if that helps but not sure how to attach one.

I thought it was the other way around; where the water evaporates up through the porous slab taking the mortar with it, the water eventually evaporates completely leaving the cement efflorescence on top of the stone? Could be wrong though.

The staining appears to almost totally disappear when it has been dry. Does this mean there isn't permanent damage and I could get away with getting it relayed on full mortar beds

....looks like classic wicking to me, the flags drawing up moisture overnight and then drying out as the day moves on, before starting the cycle all over again at the end of the day.
