Got a call from a customer to do a quote. Turns out I knew her.

Anyway, she wanted a fence painted. 16 x 6 ft panels, just one side with concrete posts that needed masking and concrete gravel board. Hedges and crap all in the way. Crap job basically so I turned it down.

I felt guilty so I said look so I haven't wasted your time I'll price it for you and give you some advice... so....

I emailed her and basically said for a good job I'd advice x2 coats of cuprinol ducks back wax enriched. I'd also advice taping up the concrete or the stains will NEVER come off. I'd reckon it's about 2 days work and £100 in paint etc so expect quote around £400-£500.

She replied No thank you.

I'm obv all for making money but I'm damn honest. It's important to me to be an earnest person. I figure you got one life, it's practical, if nothing else, to be genuine throughout it.

God damn I'm fuming.

I have been caught out so many times in painting fences. Last time I installed a picket fence and agreed to paint it white. Left a lad doing it, took twice as long and used three times as much paint, then the guy complained about it. Never again. They want a fence painting, get a painter in.
I think you were fair and honest. Dont worry about it, she will get it done cheaply, and will regret it.

Cheers Dan but I honestly wasn't vying for the work. I wouldn't have done it for £700. It was the way she said no thank you when my first words were I'm declining the work but for your info etc etc ....

Dammit people **** me off sometimes....

I hope she pays someone £200 and gets a 1 coat patchy job and stains all her posts and gravel boards blotchy brown lol

Hi Giles,

We appreciate the time taken to make your enquiry and apologise that are unable to help on this occasion, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for considering SHS Products.
