New wacker or repair old one?

So I have a wacker dps1850. It's a proper machine which I've owned since new in 2004 so it's done very well!

The engine is now dead, beyond economical repair I'm told.

So the options I have

Just change the engine to a honda gx160. I understand it wouldn't actually be that hard? How would that work with the clutch,exciter etc? I understand it would put down the same kn

New wacker wp2050 ? About a grand all in.

Bit worried it might be a crap plate, my old diesel certainly put the base down but I know the 'kn' isn't the be all and end all. I have a wp1340 which while it clearly isn't as powerful it also really puts the base down. Along with the block, it's almost better doing more passes with a less powerful plate sometimes. (It actually wacks the blocks down better than the diesel in some cases (200x100, certainly).

Wacker wp1550?

Belle pcx500. Does 16.5 kn but haven't heard great things about belle.

Any other suggestions?

Would love to just replace engine on the old one tbh. Not worth putting a new diesel on it at over a grand. Would be nice to easily put a honda petrol on it. Having a few harsh months, new digger, new van, new splitter, new petrol cutters.......ouch :laugh:

Buy a clutch that fits the new engine as doubt the old one on the diesel will be the same input shaft size you may have to make a plate up for the engine to sit on if the holes to bolt out down don't line up. Exciter not be an issue just need to line the new clutch up you may need a shorter/longer belt depending on where the clutch sits.
Not sure if will reach the same kn as is dependant on revs

Sell it for spares or repairs, and buy a new one. Its not worth the messing about with.. I have a wacker neauson one I brought a couple of years ago, and its a beast, but heavy.

Which one do you have dan?

Starting to re consider putting a new replacement Diesel engine on it. Having seen a replacement is £2400 it might be worth painting the plate, new mountings ,new engine and I've effectively got a new wacker for a grand which is superior to cheaper petrols.

Wp1550. Weighs about 85kg, and it outperforms the belle version with ease. I paid about a grand all in with delivery

Well, looks like I'm going to stomach buying a new diesel, think it's going to be a bomag bp 2050d which has the same engine as my old one. Tbh it's lasted 12 years with basically no maintenance :0
Got a good price from local Travis at 1700 plus vat. Just not worth messing about with old one now tbh.

I know, I've had some real jokes there over the years, on one occasion I made them take the stuff off the van as I refused to pay that much :laugh:

But now I have some really sensible prices set up, the trick with Travis is to speak with a manager and tell them how it is, since doing that it's been pretty good. This wacker price is 50 cheaper than does and 250 cheaper than the best price I can get for the wacker equivilant. They also beat the best price I could get on a wp2050. Mind you I still have to haggle :laugh:

Have you tried taylor construction plant in maldon? They arr wacker dealers, its where I got mine from

Just to upstate I ended up getting a bomag 18/45 and it's a proper weapon, it won't last forever with the petrol engine (throttle already broken). But it puts down some pressure, it 'feels' better than my old diesel tbh

18/45 Bomag is what I use, with an asphalt kit on it, its a great tool. Bit heavy but you need it to be.
