Sawn sandstone in scotland

Really like the modern look of sawn sandstone (London Stone Harvest sawn) but local landscapers are recommending against it and recommended riven.
What are the pros and cons of sawn sandstone in a wet climate (would pre seal it to protect it)?

My main concern is slipping on it - seen some bad and good sawn sandstone re this.

Any thoughts and recommendations based on actual installs welcomed.

With thanks to this site I laid my sawn sandstone patio back in 2010 - cant remember the supplier - will try to dig it out, but do not find it slippy.

It is a north facing garden, sunlight only lands on it from March until September. THe missus has lots of bird feeders up and gets covered in moss, but come spring time, it gets a power wash and comes up pretty good. Every second year I clean with LM Lithofin outdoor cleaner and it comes up grand. It was not sealed with anything and I have still not sealed it.

Sandstone comes up like that pretty much every year with a good power wash, comes up cleaner when using the LM lithofin.

I find it is as similar to the council greys for being slippy when moss/mudwater has settled on them.

Any particular reasons why contractors are recommending against the use of sawn paving?

Dont worry about it being slippy. As long as you clean it once or twice a year it will stay looking tip top

Personally I would definately pre-seal

sawn paving is lighter and much easier to install,for contractors its a god send
anyone advising against it must have ulterior motives

Not sure why they don't like it - one contractor even said it would be ruined in a couple of years time (stayed clear or them - must be their incompetence to install).

You could also consider a sandblasted finish rather than honed (smooth) if you prefer. Personally, I find that even the honed becomes slightly grippier when wet, but you may like to try with some samples to obtain your own view on this.

Yes, George, you are right. Even a honed finish is not so slippery. Just make sure to keep it clean. It's the algae that is the slippy part
