It's probably not the stuff I was thinking of. The colour of type 1 varys regionally.
I live in Leicester and the mot we get from mount sorrel is bright red.
What you have there is 40mm to dust.
I like my type 1 to contain a lot of fines as It compacts well and has less voids.
Its type 1 round where I am we get a mixture of red/pink or a grey colour all depends where it came from scalpings is black or a very dark colour due to the tar but scalpings at the right depth can be fine we put a tempory access in made up of fresh scalpings off the motorway (literally straight from the planner to us) and it went off like tarmac was a bit of a pain to scrap off for proper levels
It's good split.
What you call scalping we call plainings.
As long as the aggregate is 40mm to dust ,we'll compacted to the right depth within the retaining edge it will be fine split.
