This is a problem of my own making.....

Our house is 250 years old, stone built and outside the back door has a mixture of setts and stone slabs which must have been there for decades. Beyond the small yard, we had a patio laid last summer in Indian stone and misjudged the colour. We thought we were going for green/brown, but it's turned out much closer to light grey, particularly when dry and it contrasts rather than complementing and blending in.

Is there any way of using a colour enhancer (or sealant as it makes sense to seal it at the same time perhaps?) to change the colour of the slabs laid to give us a closer colour match to the existing slabs?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

A colour enhancing sealer will only enhance the colour stone not change the colour. There are "dyes" for mortar but this isn't going to work for what you are trying to do. Not possible to dye natural stone successfully so I'm afraid you are stuck with what you have.

Roger,

Thank you for your quick response. It's a shame, but nobody to blame but me :-)

Hi Trigger
Roger is of course correct, an enhancer will not change the actual colour. However what it will change - is the Delta E value.

The most obvious example (as you have already noticed) is when the paving is wet. Whilst the colour hasn’t actual changed, the appearance thereof, has. If you PM me I will happily provide you with a sample of our Indian Sandstone Enhancer with my compliments, and you can try on an inconspicuous area and judge for yourself
