funny actually because I live in the sticks & the last 3 weeks or so there has been a load of white vans bombing up & down this road all times & days of the week , I stopped a passing copper today & asked if there had been any local thefts, & surprise of surprises... yes, in the last month or so a *sudden* surge they are probs hired so a number plate would be useless anyway, & unless they catch them in the act they can't do a thing .

Local plant hire outfit lost 3 takeuchi 125 machines last weekend from their compound - the thieves fired up a TB175 and flattened the metal palisade security fencing, drove the 125's out and loaded them away.

the bigger brand new machines from cat etc have remote tracking and maintenance like fuel level etc etc, there was a sorry about tracking a stolen dozer to germany not long ago.
i read a thing the other day from the people who track plant theft and offer a register to record serial numbers etc. they said common problem is electrics being short circuited,(ark welder connected up in reverse polarity does the trick appartently), or into a shipping container no signal or another one is they park the machine some where rural but very close to mobile phone tower so they know its got a signal if its still there 3 days later it not tracked etc.
despite the police having the vehicle reg and cctv of the two men we have heard nothing.

you will like this one
working today had a tonne of ballast on the pick up ,mixer set up lean mixing the cavities
heard a roar like a hedge trimmer
2 pikeys on a mini motorbike zooming along the pavement doing around 20mph
they shouted out "cheersz mait" in that obvious pikey brogue, and i thought it strange
my labourer went off like a rabbit after them ,they had nicked the petrol can with 5litres of 2 stroke mix by riding between the moving mixer and the pick up (avoiding cones too)
anyway 40 yds up the road he was closing on their hairdryer moped
sadly after months of telling him to do up his laces ,he was hoisted by his own petard
a boot came off and wobbs did a spectacular cartwheel and landed on his face
the thieving gypsy b'stards waved and wizzed off across some poor souls lawn into the ether
poor wobbs dog had to be put down last night so maybe it was a good thing he didnt catch them as it wouldnt have ended well
welcome to luton ,have a nice day
