It is up to you to check that plant you hire is fit for purpose, if it isn't then send it back and demand one that is ffp. Imagine how many calls they get about things that could be avoidable ???

it all depends on the job
if we are on site for >2 weeks a toilet is a must
on a roof for more than 10 minutes a scaffold is a must
but we don t have to wear hard hats in peoples houses yet
but I have to stop all subbies tax on the labour element of their invoice unless they have gross tax status

Anywhere there is a risk of "falls from height" safety measures are required be it 10m from a roof or 120mm into a ditch and a m/s issued to cover the risks etc. hot works now on a site are basically taboo, hence press fit plumbing etc. walk onto a big site with a 9" angle grinder and the management have kittens :;):
