On a particular site we work at, some of our work is classed as "Working at height"
This is because we are working on footpaths where the footpath is 125mm higher than the roadway. Crazy or what??
The RAMS has to address this 'situation'
It's beyond ridiculous....but all the faffing around is factored into the price, which is a godsend.
Anyone else got anything better??

That's the way it is now like lifting weights it is what you are comfortable with, could be a feather or a ton. I have waited a week sometimes at Heathrow to get the permits i need for different things
We had a dig open once to install a manhole, the safety guys stopped me because weren't sure the batter was good enough took nearly 2 months to get the go ahead after we shaved off another few
ml ??? Installing a new run to existing manhole i had to have my photo taken at the start of every shift
I could go on and on

In many places we work, you HAVE to pander to this sort of nonsense otherwise we can't work there.....you'd be chucked off site. Where we primarily work the staff have a "Challenge Health & Safety" regime hammered into them - if they see us doing something they THINK is unsafe, they come over and challenge us, even though they have no idea of what we are doing. It gets on your tits after a while..........
It's the hard hats that we have to wear despite nobody else working around us and no dangers from anything falling that gets me!

dave I remember the hullabaloo that came when hardhats became mandatory in the 80s
the site manager said there were exemptions
all you had to do was have a house brick dropped on your head from 20 M up
if it didnt hurt, you didnt have to wear a hard hat
same with toilets, blokes used to pee and worse all over
now everyone is used to portaloos
enjoy florida mate turn your work off for a while

I see the portaloos all over the place, but who enforces the rule that you have to have them?seanandruby wrote:Remember the days well of cement bag shit parcels. In those days houses in being built smelt strongly of piss etc:

Not so sure. They were not interested to hear about a hired micro digger that was missing its rollbar. Their response was " we will investigate if there is an accident"seanandruby wrote:HSE. depending on how many people on site determines the amount of facilities..minimum of one toilet and one urinal one wash basin.
