Hi lads,
I have just started a new business importing granite products. I mainly have polished granite tiles in stock but I am looking to expand into cobbles and pavers. I have worked for an engineering consultancy for the last 15 years on the mechanical side so I have a fairly good broad knowledge in construction. I imported a small quantity of meshed granite cobblestones and I am not 100% sure if they would be suitable for a domestic driveway. They come on a pvc mesh and are between 40mm and 50mm thick including mortar. The individual stones are between 30mm to 40mm thick. The overall dimension is 500x500 which includes 25 cobbles. I think they would be fine if they were layed on a mortar bed over a concrete base or directly on the concrete before it sets but i am not sure. I dont want to recommend them for an application that they are not suited to. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Maybe I am being a bit over cautious with the concrete base and they could be layed on 100/150mm of 804 but because the cobbles are not staggered and the stones are thinner than standard I am a small bit concerned. Would you reccomend staggering the panels, it would be structurally sounder and more pleasing to the eye. What depth would you reccomend for bedding, would 50mm lean mix be ok.
Thanks,
Mark.
P.S. Great site excellent for educating a rookie.
