I'm limbering up to lay a paving slab base for a shed. I've dug the ground, have the cement, sand, slabs, etc on order (arriving Wednesday) and am generally prepared to lay a dry mix for the slabs. However, the forecasts are not good for the next few days after all the gear arrives. Also, I' not sure if I'll be able to lay dry mortar and 45 slabs in a day without killing myself (I'm not a BIG bloke).
So (here's the dumb question), if I put down the dry mix and it rains am I in trouble? I am presuming that the whole thing will start hardening as the cement/sand gets wet. Could I cover it with a tarpaulin (set up to drain the water away)? My Mrs (a farmers daughter so keen to be involved) suggested we do the mortar in strips and lay slabs, then some more mortar, and slabs on top, etc, but I'm convinced it will be impossible to lay the whole thing flat that way.
I really welcome any thoughts, but please be gentle and sorry for the long post.
Depends how hard the rain comes down.
Any bed will turn to pudding if it gets too wet.
If your new to this then you might be beat off making up some shuttering and screeming your sand cement bedding then lay the slabs all in one go.
It's only a shed base so slight lips will be irrelevant.
