Allow 72 hours between the 1st & 2nd coat of Aqua-Mix, then a thin coat at that.deegan1979 wrote:Hi mate, that was my first real test with enrich n seal, only had a brush to hand for that one, the steaks are actually white crystal like deposits in the stone.
Did more today but with a foam roller, much better will add some pictures soon.
Unfortunately tho this stone absorbs the sealer to touch dry in about 30 seconds and half a litre only sealed 7 of the slabs, originally ordered only 1 litre but now placed an order for the larger 3.8l size.
Very happy with tonight's go tho and can't thank you enough for the recommendation.
May need a very light 2nd coat as ull see in the next pictures I have a few lighter areas, not too bad tho so thanks again for you're help.

Yes 30 mins if you are going wet on wet, but if you are going to leave a day or so before doing the second coat then 72 hours at least.

I have some pots in the same material that look great, cant sell them do.
I've been told sealing the sides would mean the pointing won't bond to the slabs??
U got any pics of the pots?

Well it sounds like I've messes up my slabs. Spoke to tiling logistics and been told I've uses way too much product by using a foam roller. Been told to use a paint pad and get it on as thin as possible, he reckons the ones I've already done will be like walking on grease due to sandwich coating the 2 layers.
He's also said a light coat on the sides wiped off straight after won't affect the pointing bonding to it.
Sound about right to u r&a?

Yes if you have over applied the sealer they can have a greasy feel to them, did you cloth off any excess so the sealer isn't sitting and drying on the surface?
The ones you have done, how do they feel to the touch?
The one's in the photos from what I can see do look fine, but sometimes hard to tell from photos.

They feel fine, there was a tiny amount of unobserved sealer on them after the 2nd coat which I removed with kitchen roll.
Been walking on them and they don't feel slippery but they arnt wet.
What were you're thoughts on lightly sealing the sides mate?

I'll have to be honest with you, we don't lay paving only do restoration on them cleaning, sealing etc, so I can't answer that question about sealing all sides prior to laying but some of the guy's that lay paving on here will be able to give you the correct answer.deegan1979 wrote:R&A Pressure Washing wrote:deegan1979 wrote:Well it sounds like I've messes up my slabs. Purely because these so are so porous I worry about the picture framing effect, however I've never done this before and am being a bit anal, will be using weatherpoint 365.London Stone Paving wrote:Why do you want to seal the sides? Not advisable as will compromise the bond between slab and pointing material
Maybe u would recommend I wet the sides first instead?
Thanks

Just thought I'd let u know that I've been chatting via email to the American company that produce aqua mix.
U can apply a second coat of enrich n seal anytime from 30 minutes after the first coat with no ill effect.
The only issue is if u allow un absorbed product to dry on the surface it will leave a sticky slippery residue, but this can easily be removed from the surface of the stone without affecting the product that has penetrated.
They have also said that contrary to what tiling logistics told me enrich n seal should not be applied to the sides of the slabs.
Their product aqua mix penetrating sealer is the only 1 that can be applied to both the sides and the underside of the slabs without effecting the mortar or pointing bond.
Looks like I'm safe as I have no sticky residue phew...
