Well although I obviously couldn't be there in person - which I am sure wasn't contrived by anyone in the UK - I was there in spirit.

I had a superb evening in Dubai, a lovely fish dinner at the new Dubai Marina, red wine to savour and imbibe, 80 degrees of balmy heat, excellent company and a moonlit star filled sky to enjoy.

Followed by live music courtesy of a 6 peice Philippino rock band, a 3 piece all girl Russian "Abba" like group and a Black African Soweto-style 8 piece band including dancers. All supported by plentiful Jack Daniels and coke. I didn't get to bed till gone 3am, and I was sadly alone when I did get under the sheets, but all in all it wasn't a bad night.

Hope yours was as memorable! I'm sure the many "posters" who attended will be submitting their reviews with excitement.

Tis the wonder of the t'internet, John - there's no logic to it at all!

While Sim was enjoying his night with Betty Swollocks and listening to the turns live on stage at the Dubai Working Men's Club, I had a Salt-n-Peppa Chicken takeway from the Double Luck (Glazebury's finest Chinese) followed by two glasses of hot Vimto and a night of supreme enjoyment rubbing Mrs Taz's slipped disc with Fiery Jack.

Beat that if you can! :D

And I thought Dubai was a nifty place - Black African Soweto-style 8 piece bands (with or without dancers) are SO last week. And Russian all-girl Abba soundalikes? Are you sure you aren't on one of those cut price cruises?:D

Well tonight I'll go for something on a grander scale - maybe a McDonald's Happy Meal with double fries and a large chocolate shake!

Talking of HarryStoccracy, I have just come home after seeing the latest Harry Potter film, the Goblet of Fire. Very good film. Worth seeing.

What's clever is you can get this stuff called Gilliweed which allows you to breath underwater. Must be a market for that!

I'm going the the pictures on Thursday, provisionally. I'm having an expedition down south to some village called Lundun or summat tomorrow, so that I can go to the Civils exhibition, and I won't get back until late Wednesday night. Are you planning on going, Sim? Anyone else going?

I'm not best pleased at it being held in this Lundun place. The NEC is Brummingham is much easier to get to, and more central, but just because the Sarffeest has been awarded the Limpix in 2012, everything now has to be staged down there. Civils 03 was at the NEC and I thought it was a moderate success. I can't see a move south-eastwards doing much to encourage all the civil engineers and CivEng contractors in N.England, Scotlandshire, Wales and elsewhere.

I'm having to go down on the train because it woas going to cost the best part of a hundred quid to park up the car for 2½ days in this Lundun place! Hundred chuffing quid?? Not flaming likely - I can get a train there and back for 34 quid.

Tony, Tony, Tony

We're not all bad you know. Yes it's expensive, yes it's a long way away from you, yes we talk funny.

But there are some from Lundun who have similar feelings about those in the North (or is it Nawf) of our great country - present company excepted, of course!
