I am building an access for a house site and it will be working out at about 1:8
There will be a lot of fill going in at one point to make up the level, and this plus the scale of the project (access will be over 30m long) would seem to rule out any sort of tarmac etc.
I would be hoping to simply use an all-in aggregate, e.g. crusher run, to create a final surface, as this would be cheap and more resistant to settlement. It will only receive light traffic from one house.
My main concern is that the surface could get damaged by water, so will need careful drainage.
I was wondering if there are products available as drainage channels that I could lay across the access, similar idea to what you see in paved surfaces but something a bit more robust and designed to be laid into a non-paved surface.
A cattle grid would do the job but they're rather expensive
Any kind of unbound material is unlikely to last long on a steep drive.
There will be always be an amount of wheel spin which will soon chuck all the stone to the bottom of your drive.
At the very least rake some cement into the surface before compaction. May buy you a month or so. ???
