Hi all this is the first time I have posted to brew cabin so please excuse grammar . My existing drive slopes down to pavement and the slope is the natural slope of the underlying rock face except for the last 11/2 meters which is compacted 200mm sub-base, all this was covered with a layer of tarmacadam in 1975 and is only now showing signs of wear and tear. so I have decided to lay clay block pavers on it to herringbone design. The side edging and soldiers have already been laid, and along the bottom of the drive a 2"x6" concrete edging with a concrete haunch acting as a ramp from the pavement end, and next to them on the start of drive side, a border of clay blocks laid on concrete, then a linear drain next to them running to a soak-away ,and then another border of blocks on concrete level with side soldiers and about 5mm higher than drain. My question is -- should I dig up the tarmacadam at this point say about 12" wide across bottom of drive and replace with compacted sub-base material to facilitate the draining of rain water which will inevitably to some extent drain through the block paving?

Firstly, well done for deciding to use clay paving rather than concrete.
Secondly I get some of your post but not all of it.
I think we will all need pictures before any advice can be given on how you have gone about things so far and what should be done next.
