I'M LOOKING FOR ADVICE.
NEW TO BUILDING AND WHAT TO KNOW WHAT MY OPTIONS ARE FOR THE SPREADING OF 9 TON OF DTP1 AGGREGATE.
IT'S ALL FOR THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE , THE AREA 5m x 9m
RATHER THAN USING A SHOVEL AND DAMAGING MY BACK IN THE PROCESS I'M TRYING TO FIND MY OPTIONS, NOT BOTHERED IF I HAVE TO HIRE SOME MACHINE.
DO THE COMPANIES THAT DELIVER OFFER A SPREADING SERVICE ?
I LIVE IN THE MANCHESTER AREA.
THANKS
G

they wont offer a spreading service, most likely to tip it in the easiest place for them then hurry off as soon as they have a signature. hire in a mini, or a microdigger if access is a problem. that way you get to spread your stone, save your back and look all masculine operating a peice of machinery. just watch the walls.

Most hire shops now offer small machines, you are looking for a 0.8 ton micro or 1 tonner.
Maybe worth finding someone local with one to pop in and spread for you.
By the time you have learnt to drive the machine - spread the mot everywhere but where you want it! and paid for delivery / collection maybe work out better to get experianced operator to do it.
Where near Manchester are you? We maybe able to sort out for you if local and are passing by, or recommend someone.

Many Thanks for both your reply and your offer.
I live near M62 j17 Prestwich/Whitefield area.
I am about to order both the aggregate and sand for sometime this week or early next week if the weather can make it's mind up.
If we could arrange something and a price then I'm all for that.
Send me a PM - the area is easy access (front garden/driveway) to have the 9 ton of aggregate and the 4 ton of grit sand.
Many Thanks

1 - the driver will just tip the load in one place. its not a lot of stuff that your having so it wil be easier to just tip it all.
2 - a two course wall? two courses of brick? trench block? i wouldnt make any assumptions just have a nice chat with the driver and you should be alright. keep him happy like.
3 - aside from looking in yellow pages for mini digger hire that is local, try places like a-plant but these will be feckin exensive for what you want. if you were a little closer you could have had one of mine!
and before you hire a machine, check the weather. you dont want to be spreading mush.
have fun!
