Don't know if this has been asked before but is there such a thing as Black KDS or joining sand for block paving?
Done a quote today for next year a front drive, pavers are a charcoal grey and the customers has asked if the sand can be black they don't want the usual colours.
Any ideas?

Cheers Mick,
Not cheap but didn't expect it to be really, on the specs page coverage rates don't seem to be as good as regular KDS? Have you used this product Mick?

No not used it but I just guessed that someone would supply it as I have walked on a black sand beach in Tenerife many years ago and costing 4 times the amount of a normal bag of KDS it's not something I would consider either

the bag is only 20kg in size but the coverage says 5 - 6 m2 per bag which is about half the coverage you will get using a 25kg bag of KDS

when you have finished cleaning the paving the total amount of kiln dried sand will not have been removed so I'm sure you will get better coverage than starting from new filling all the joints in the block paving

Had a customer last year that after we had laid and jointed a cbp drive for him, which he was happy with, later fancied black kds.... That's the direction I pointed him in. Told him to just top up the joints with that stuff. Not sure if he ever did it though?!

Mick
After cleaning BP I usually allow 1kg per square meter on 200x100 blocks + 10% and calculation is pretty spot on for costing. The drive in question is 200+ sq mts so going to be expensive if they go the Black sand route.

LLL
I get KDS from Jewson got the price down to £3.50 + Vat 25kg bags.

Don't see the point in coloured sand. Come the end of winter it'll be black whatever colour you use:p

We are about to stock a Silver Granite sand (we already stock standard kiln sand)

The silver granite sand is ideal for the shot-blasted silver granite effect paving - if normal kiln sand is used on these products it can stain.

Again, not cheap at around £12 a bag, but if thats what you want...

regards

Dan

the argent Dan would look nice initially

but as has been said give it a few weeks and unless you are very particular it will attract dust etc anyway
