Hi all,

I need to lay a permeable driveway as it will be over 5m2 and need some advise on what sub base to use. I know that it should be 20cm of 20mm and 5cm of 6mm permeable stone. I had a look and people that sell the paving stones have(Bradstone, Building Materials Permeable Drainage Aggregate 20mm ), which is quite expensive.
My question is, would Wickes 20mm gravel or 20mm Limestone do the trick?

Thank you

The council. They said we can either have just 5 M2 of hardstanding, anything over that must be made out of permeable material

nonsense. it does not have to be permeable, but you do have to put a linear channel in to stop the water entering the highway. that will be much cheaper too!

Theoretically a surveyor could throw it up as a problem though when selling

six years down the line from the new driveway legislation its not rocket science to tell how old the driveway is from a visual look of the paving or using google street view

yes they have updated my road 4 times since street view started

I get fed up pricing drives and they say"joe bloggs drives says we dont need drainage"

I prefer to pass on jobs that they dont want done correctly

Userb1 if you're still around the 20mm limestone is fine. Don't know about the wickes stuff but basically if its rounded then its no use if its angular then good to go.
Alternatively install a soakaway instead of permeable paving, all the info is on this website.
