Just shows you how tough us construction workers are as opposed to you lot in the building game, 15 years last stint in major construction and not rained off once. 6 months back in the building and sent home again today, bloody wimps :;):

err arent construction workers and building workers the same thing sean?

FTR we worked all day in the rain today not because we are tough, but because we need the money

Technically yes they are same. I usually refer to building as most of it is done manually ie brick on brick etc; i use construction as a term for say main frame building where heavier plant like cranes are used for shutters, steel etc: Just my way of thinking. Actually i worked all day in it when i got home i planted up a load of shrubs and bedding plants. First time i have been sent home and as soon as the boss said it i was gone incase he changed his mind. And here's me thinking you where tough :;):

tough as in leathery maybe
my old hoddy went with a groundworks firm (big-sh about 100 men)

and he said the big difference between the subby brickwork sites and the groundworkers was the hours

bricklayers 8-4.30
groundworkers 7.30-5.30

and also if it rained on a brickwork job everyone went home
the groundworkers just put their wet suits on

but as with most firms now we work on a no lay- no pay basis

I dont mind the odd half hour rain break but half a day is unsustainable for small firms

cheers LLL

Our hours 8.00 till 5.00, should be 7.30 till 6.00 but residents put the block on it. but even those are short hours compared to my last life on large 'construction' sites. nice to be home before 6.30 for first time in 15 years work, usually 8.45ish. Obviously choice is up to the individual re-working in the rain. One day it was light rain, then came the usual nonsense comments '' it's the kind of rain that gets you wet,'' and ''i'm soaking wet,'' ''this is shite i bet all the other sites have gone home.'' laugh: ???
