I'm finally at the stage of preparing my sub base and whacking it down. I've been using 50mm crusher run and after about 10 passes with the whacker plate it's nicely compacted ... but I need it to be around 5mm higher.
I've run out of 50mm crusher run. I'll need to order something more, but what? If I order more 50mm crusher run there'll be a lot of pieces that are too big, and because my sub base is already well compacted they won't compact in. My local builders merchants do 25mm crusher run, but even that might be too big?
Would something like 10mm pea gravel be any good? (too much uniformity in the size?) Or perhaps I should go for 25mm crusher run and just rake out the big bits? Am I better off raking up some of my compacted sub base before I put 25mm/50mm crusher run down, rather than trying to bump up what I've already got?
